Poly-V pulleys - video

Does anyone know how these v-belts are specified? I have a small DC motor with a pulley like one of these that I would like to use for a projects; but have been unable to find how these belts are specified...when I went searching for poly-v belts all I found were things like belts for automotive engines and such. Basically I need to reverse-engineer the belt specification from the pulley.

Okay, I've been here myself. After close to a year, I could not find any data on the subject. But due to lack of information, I don't know what you think you are asking. Percentage of power transmission will be modified by the tension in the pulleys. The belt needs to fit the pulleys. The pulley sizes determine what is effectively the gear ratio, which determines your RPMs. So your torque could be quite a few values.

However, if you are trying to reverse-engineer the belts and just want data, I recommend checking out McMaster-Carr's website or app. You will find some good data there that may apply.

Look up Optibelt flat ribbed belt. Gates also have info. I’ve converted my band saw, 2x72 belt grinder, and in the process of converting my 1236 lathe to a 10 rib flat belt. I’m using the “K” series belts.
I’ve made most of the pullies to fit my application.

I believe it was GATES that had a great design resource, in PDF form, but I couldn't find it today on their web site. It had all the information to design for these Poly-V type belts. I haven't tried their software yet. The nice thing here is that for these belts the pulley side wall angles are constant which makes pulley manufacture much easier.

These Poly-V belts are great for machine tools and I try to suggest them to anybody needing a power transmission solution for small tools. This flick is a great demonstration of that.
