Tried to upload 3 pictures, and I keep getting a warning, upload has failed. It allowed one of my pictures, but not the other two. What is wrong? Bob.

OK, I went advanced and evidently some of the pictures that I tried to upload were too large, so I will work on that, Bob.
We can look at the max upload file size limit too. It might be too low.
OK, this might have been my fault. I reviewed my camera settings and found the dial was set to scan, what ever that is, instead of auto. So, I will try again. I have never had a problem before, so this will probably solve the problem. Bob.
Today the same thing happened. I corrected the camera setting and set to auto. The size of the picture was 2.94 megs. Is that too large? What is the max. size allowed. Bob.
Currently our max filesize for jpeg images was set to 488K, 800 max width, 600 max height.
I can increase that to 1MB, 1200 max width, 800 max height, but we will probably have some issues if we go any higher than that.
So you might have an option on your camera to set them at a lower setting.
Yes, virtually all modern cameras allow one to set the size of the stored image. 800 x 600 is a typical setting.
However, it's wise to save images in the largest size possible in your camera and computer so that, should you ever need to blow them up, the detail will still be there. There are numerous free third party programs available to resize photos for use on forums. My favorite is FastStone...
FastStone Photo Resizer - Powerful Image Converter/Resizer
It can do lots of other stuff like renaming and adding watermarks.
If you store images intended for forums on Photobucket they will be re-sized automatically when uploaded.
Maybe we can look at adding a resizer tool or link to a similar service.
Photobucket, Imgur, and similar services are extremely convenient, but I do get a bit nervous when they're used for image hosting. We're subject to the whim of their services, so they could always alter the image presentation, availability, or advertisement at their choosing. Ideally the photographer retains the original image plus whatever reduced-quality copies he needs, and then uploads the image separately to wherever he wants to display it online. We've all seen huge photo-rich detailed discussions, and then come back later only to see all of the photos have been replaced by broken image icons.
OK, I have reset my camera to 480x640 and same thing, won't take the upload, says file to big. What is wrong, did you change something?, all of my pictures were taken with the same camera without resetting to a smaller size without problems since I joined, until now. The other site that I am on, a tractor site Orange tractor talks, no problem, uploads without errors and like I say this just started happining a few days ago, what is wrong. Maybe I don't know how to set my camera, but it says vga, 640 by 480, but then it says 3968 by 2232. Maybe the cameras that I have don't allow for smaller pixel pictures. Bob.
OK, take one of the images that is failing to upload here, and upload it to imgur.com (fastest way to get it online, without registering). Then post the imgur url to the image, and I can download it and troubleshoot it.
OK I will do that, but I did some revue and here is what I found. I went to one of my posts, how to paint a tractor wheel and looked at the size. jpeg 0342 was 4.56 megs and size was 4608by3072 and it uploaded without a problem. When you click on the pic. it says it reduced it to 2197x1465 --59%. Now it won't even take a 3.27 meg. pic. So I will do what you said, thanks Bob. PS, I am not a camera whiz.
OK, the picture that you sent me loaded as before. I hate to harp on this subject, but why, in all of my loading of files, with the same camera, now they have to be cropped. My other large pictures loaded with no problem. Again, did something change on Homemade Tools? I guess that I will have to get a little cheap camera that only loads 80k pictures. How do I set up my camera to be able to load them now? I have it set for 480 by 640. bob.
OK, I had a look at the tractor wheel thread. The pics that ended up in the discussion were around 600K, so I'm not sure what happened between the camera and the post to reduce them in size.
What's your camera model? I can take a look at an online manual and see what may be causing this.
My camera is an SX500IS. I will play with to see what I can do. Bob. As for the site that will allow uploads of pictures, It seemed that they were going to go into My Pictures and grab all of them, I don't know, but I didn't trust them.
