    This is only the first stage in the process known as compacting, the next stage is repressing to the final size in a new punch and die setup followed by heat treatment. I worked in a company who made the punches and carbide dies to very tight dimensions followed by heat treatment. The part shown is a timing belt cam wheel which we used to make tooling for GKN.

    Thanks Olderdan!! So cool that you recognized the cam gear and gave us the full scoop on powdered metal process. Curious how they allow for shrinkage in the final heat treatment?
