Interesting; I don't recall seeing a lathe-driven shaper. One more instance of lathes being the single most universal machine tool. Shaper motion seem passe to modern machinists, but wire and sinker EDM, hasn't been around forever...or prevalent in home shops.

Occasionally, similar devices were offered for horizontal milling machines. Most swivel CW-CCW, parallel to the vertical [Z] ways.
Have seen a drawing [30's era] that had a tilt feature as well. Photo was of it mounted; probably drove a yoke or crankshaft via helical coupling. Incline was a wedge shaped spacer. It was probably somewhere 3 to 8 degrees to clear backside of die plates.

Thanks for popping by Metallurg and commenting. Yeah the shed re-leveling really took it out of me, very physical as you could see. Glad to be in the shop doing what I like. Glad your enjoying the series on the Lathe Slotter.

G'Day Toolmaker51. You can do so much with a lathe, your only limited by your imagination. Next to the Bandsaw its one machine I could not live without.

I would also add the drill press is another shop tool you definitely need even before the lathe. When I was a teenager built a 6" X 20" homemade metal lathe using just a drill press and hand tools. The drill press provided the exact 90 degree precision for fitting the parts.

Yeah, bandsaw's are very high on my list. I do a lot of contouring billet style parts -manual mills and bandsaw.
Drill presses are important too, so many have limited features, I like box column presses though!
