I have produced a short video of a prototype magnetic coupler. It joins two threaded rods with the same pitch together. These rods are not in alignment, and their threads do not match at the ends. I successfully used this arrangement on a recent project.

Did you join the two rods together, subsequently? I am intrigued by the mention of a project.
