The springs provide no advantage at all, nor does the use of the bicycle hub, except to obscure from view the spot where you're placing the point of the punch.

Seems to me just grinding the point on the end of the valve and simply using that as the punch works exactly the same way with ¼ the part count while being able to see where you're putting the tip...with the advantage of a bigger target for the hammer and protection of your fingers.
