    Quick Set Screw Modification Arbor

If you need to modify the end of a few set screws this is a quick way to go.
I have made up a few for the screws I use the most. The 10-32 came in handy today.

The large diameter is held in the lathe chuck. The hole in that part is a clearance hole for the screw you are making the arbor for.
The small diameter is threaded full length for the thread of the screw you are making it for.

To use it, simply put a set screw in from the large end and send it forward enough to stop the screw you want to modify at the correct extension.
I like to chuck it up and indicate it on the screw that I am going to modify.

The second picture shows two 10-32 set screws that were drilled on center to .125" and then a short piece of brass was soldered into it.
Nice to have in the shop when you can't find brass tipped set screws or dog point screws.

    Cheers, JR

Cool little arbor JR. Would only need a few of the common sizes (4-40 to 1/4-20) and easy to make, Plus save a trip to the hardware store. Very versatile for trimming or extending dog points or converting to some other form and would be nice for drilling and putting brass inserts it. Simple Idea, well executed.
