Here is my last invention : who can say what is its purpose ?

:lol: no, not a pepper grinder, the main part is mono-bloc

I can add that the metal part at the bottom is a strong neodymium magnet.

What else ?

A special gluing fixture where the rubber strap goes around and holds the part under tension by snapping the strap into the ball peg on the opposite side. The magnet is used to position the fixture on the steel workbench bolts.

Ha ha, not a call whistle, could be a sort of trap or catapult, but no ...

For Paul, good idea, for gluing something round, but no.
What about the carved part, lined with cork ?

Maybe the carved cork area could fit on a bicycle wheel so it won't scratch and the rubber strap holds it in position. As for the magnet, who knows, maybe to hold it on the fridge?

You do a lot of luthiery work, so I'm trying to think of something related to that...

Okay, here is my second guess but I am running out of ideas. Perhaps the carved cork area fits the side of the neck of a violin and holds it softly and horizontally off the workbench while the rubber strap retains the neck in place. I could imagine a similar pair for holding the violin waist area (or whatever the narrow midsection is called) also horizontally above the workbench so the violin back is not scratched.

Good attempt Paul, but that's funflyer who is the closest , even if it's not for a bicycle wheel on the fridge :D, but for a table saw wheel to be hold in position on the table saw frame :

Actually, I love my new Scheppach, German made table saw, but It is missing a feature that even my previous much cheaper saw had, it is a brake mechanism for locking the wheel used for setting the height of the blade.

It does hold in place place pretty well, but for the last project I did, I had to do a batch of tenons, I cut them laterally with a dado blade, and I need to keep precisely the same blade height setup along a lot of cuts, and it appeared that the wheel had a tendency to slightly turn with vibrations (especially when the handle happens to be on top, its weigh tends to make the wheel turn).

I tried to imagine how I could lock it in position, and I came up with this strange thing, that works pretty well.
The hold does not need to be necessarily very strong, the main purpose is to damp the vibrations.

The advantage with the magnet is that, even when already in place, I can still turn a little bit the wheel, slipping the magnet, for fine tuning the setup, if necessary.

I don't know how I could call that, the "setup wheel locking pepper mill" ?

That is a cool idea and so well made. Amazing that Scheppach didn't include some form of a blade height lock. I like the "what's the purpose of this new tool ?" tool posting in the Forum. We may find a new purpose for the tool in question.

Cool tool! I was going to say that the magnet may be too weak, but you did explain that it's actually an advantage in that you can fine tune the position of the handwheel.
