Railcar wheel changeout - GIF

Here in Australia, the people who are paid to think ahead and plan for the future decided it would be a good idea for the then "person in charge of making expensive decisions" to just choose the gauge line they liked best, (or traditionally was used in their home country) for their state. Consequently we ended up with 3 main gauges that changed at the border! This required the changing of trains, (upto 6 times) for pax, and reloading freight for interstate transport. Our tax $$$ at work!!

A whole continent to yourself and you ended up with three railroad gauges and a timezone offset by a HALF-hour. Fascinating, just fascinating.

Well, if that's true, you should alert these folks...

They seem to think that the mainland has five time zones. This map...
https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/australia
shows the Northern Territory and South Australia with timezones offset from UTC by a half-hour.

Ok, my bad. I should have said Australia "spans" 3 time zones. In the East it is GMT+10, and the West is GMT+8

Thats just those areas aligning themselves with the most suitable time in their zone for sun up and sun down. And the 1st link you provided states 6 time zones. But thats just because of DST in use at the moment. That information will be wrong, (if its not updated) in another month or so....
Cheers Phil
