In the 90's I worked in the shipyards in Portland, Oregon as an outside Machinist. I got to do a whole lot of of cargo and passenger cruise ship propeller removals and installs. Though, not quite Ike this guy is doing. We used cranes, chain falls, and porta-powers to CAREFULLY guide the wheel on and off of the shaft. Some ships used a special hydraulic nut to secure the prop to the shaft. The nut went on to a certain point and then a porta power or an electro-hydraulic pump was connected to a fitt8ngbon the n7t and pressure was applied to the "hollow" nut. This caused the nut to clamp tightly to the threads on the line shaft. The only time we ever used a sledge hammer to remove a nut was on a slugging wrench that fit to that nut.
