What kind of tree? I know weeping willows are bad for that.

Since they are pulling it from the end of a pipe at the coupling, it would be safe to say the missing section of pipe was where the root made its way inside. They had already cut it from the tree and the part ov the root being pulled out was the length of the tendril that had grown inside the pipe. most of that clog was probably hair soap paper possibly garbage disposal material and fecal matter packed around the root.

I watched this one again just now. I almost never wear gloves for anything even welding or using most harsh petrochemicals like MEK Acitone, laquear thinner gasoline or others but I would find me a pair of gloves large enough to fit my hands somewhere or wear bread bags to pull that mess out of the pipe. Bare hands if you have even the slightest scratch could lead to hepatitis and many other bad diseases
