A digital belt sander but you don't have a $100 press? So you use a vertical mill instead. ?????

stupid is as stupid does. I hope this was put into the what not to do with your mill section. Ive seen this done before.
I respect anyone who has the sheer guts to show what not to do. Even better when they show the repair. It was still a pretty dumb thing to do though!
Nice repair, that really impressed me, it might be an idea in future not to use your mill/spindle as a press as the spindle over time is going to suffer some major runout.
You might want to consider buying a bottle jack and building your own hydraulic press

I don’t think its fair to criticise another guys work on here and I’m disappointed that some do, if i had to make an observation i would say one thing
Don’t use Hamerite paint, that stuff is the devil’s own. It took me years to understand how to use it properly but even then it leaves a crappy finish.
Basically they want you to invest in the whole system prep, primer, topcoat most of us go straight for the can and happily paint away.
Do you ever notice it gets thicker and impossible to paint with as you get down the can. Thinners that’s the trick (only use Hamerites). Buying a tin of thinners and thinning it down to about 80:20 mix paint to thinners (slowly add thinners to get the consistency you want) makes more paint bonus and makes the paint work properly and spread more evenly.
But and its a big But
Hamerite paints formula prevents it being used with any other paint or thinners.
if you paint on an already painted surface (other brand of paint) it will bubble up and wont adheres properly leaving the surface tacky for days until it finally sort of cures. If you try painting over a previously Hamerite painted surface best of look its even worse. Its to do with the thinners used in the paint by Hamerite as opposed to the other brands. ie cellulose - some paints use it as a base and some don’t - that is where the issue lies.
