    Repairing 1/2" PVC Irrigation Pipe

Schedule 40 1/2 inch PVC pipe is great for irrigation. This pipe is not going to burst due to age like soft pipe but can be damage if hit by a shovel or pick axe. Repairs can require digging a large trench so the ends of the pipe can be bent enough to accept a standard coupler. Alternately, you can buy a telescoping repair coupler for about $5 and dig a shorter trench. But what about making a coupler on your lathe that does the same thing? The cost is near zero and the machine time is small.

You can also cut one of these couplers in half and get two patches. These patches can be cemented onto the pipe over a small damaged area.

Both the coupler and patch were tested at full city water pressure. No leaks were observed.

Great job, I will try either or both when the job comes up, it is so easy to turn and do on the lathe that it is not necessary to make them in advance and not find them, but to do it when needed. thanks for the testing
