    He must really like that piece of wood. Must have sentimental value or something. It stopped a bullet in WW2 and saved his grandfather's life I think.

    He'll need to do that a few more times though because it still isn't straight.

    Agreed. Even if he does do the process several more times the finished piece of wood is just going to be some glued together chunk. with only 1 side that will have continuous grain. Why not knock together a makeshift steam cabinet to saturate it with moisture then press it straight and dry it. it might take longer but at least he would have a better piece of wood to work with.
