    OH HELL NO!

I have an old Cyclopedie of engineering (actual spelling.) with an article on one experimenter that tried to make a gunpowder powered car.
Surprisingly, he finally abandoned it because of feeding problems.
I expected it would have been because of an "unexpected rapid disassembly incident."
Ya gotta give the early guys credit, they did whatever it took, never mind the dangers.
Kind of like some of the scary Chinese videos.

That sort of stuff wasn't confined to the days of the Model T. Consider the Orion project...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projec...ar_propulsion)

which would propel an interplanetary (and ultimately interstellar) spacecraft by spitting atomic bombs out the rear and detonating them to give the spacecraft a healthy push forward.

Thankfully, the test ban treaty put an end to it before some idiot could actually try it.

Yeah, but project Orion would sure be a sight to see...
    From far enough away.

I think this one was scarier,
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Pluto
It could have happened with the technology available and given the atmosphere at the time.
    Humans are frightening.

Russia now, in theory, has nuclear powered ramjet missiles.
