Retired after 33 yrs as diesel mech and machinist. No CNC but lots of manual machines. I'd rather make tools and fixtures than buy. Finished AR15 lower, completed as a pistol. I want to do a 1911 80% frame next.

Hi evilwrench - welcome to HomemadeTools.net :welcome:
Sounds like you've come to the right place! How did the AR15 build go? Post some pics if you have any, I'm sure people would like to take a look.
Attachment 7961Attachment 7962 The AR15 pistol build. Don't put a shoulder stock on it or it will be a short barrel rifle and the BATF frowns on that.
Welcome to the forums, evilwrench! :welcome: Nice build!
Hi evilwrench,
Welcome! :welcome:
Cool project! I spent quite a bit of time playing with various AR projects a few years ago and found that SBRs can be legally registered just as easily as suppressors by means of an ATF form and a small fee for a tax stamp. For various reasons (I'm not a lawyer, so talk to yours!), you might want to do this via a so-called "Firearms Trust".
If you get started on that 80% 1911, please do post pics of your progress!
