    Good idea, but they'd better hope there's public water available and at sufficient pressure. Also, if they have an emergency water store, just in case, they should have a battery backed up pump to draw it. One thing we've learned by recent events is that things whose availability we once took for granted these days might not be.

    Why not just put a steel roof on the house. We are not even in a "fire zone" but have a steel roof and fiber cement siding.

    Wishful thinking. It's like throwing a little baby gate in front of a charging bull. It's probably the siding that would go up first anyway.
