In China, they will use those round ball rocks in a fountain, and the pressure of the water will make the ball rotate freely in any direction. You see them in many hotel and restaurants in the lobby area or in stairwell's.
I have seen these many times when I lived in China for 5.5 years.

I've seen spherical granite about the size used as an ornament in Western Australia, the rock rests in a concave spherical "dish" of the same diameter (well almost) into which a supply of water is introduced. When the water flows the sphere turns, almost without friction and will continue to rotate randomly for a very long time. The ball can be stopped by hand, with difficulty, then will slowly commence to rotate. It's fascinating to watch, and will keep kids amused for what seems like ages. I was certainly intrigued for a while. Can dig out photos if anyone is interested, but I don't think I have video.

2 very good answers involving, of all things, water!! Who would have guessed that a stream of water, being fluid, would be able to lift and rotate a solid round rock weighing many hundreds of pounds?? Man, ya just can't make up a story like that!!

Plus, it beats my guess up one side and down the other! ............... What? ....... What was my guess?

Well, it's faster and very much easier than chiseling a really Big rock into a perfect cube?
