Ruining two good tools to make one mediocre tool

Howdy!
So I've been poking my head around on the internet and have become interested in the prospect of metal 3d printing.

I want to build one of these printers! Now, could try to be legit here and make a metal powder sintering laser machine, but let's be honest, that is waaay beyond me. So what I did is take a welding gun, and stuck it on a 3d printer. What's the worst that can happen?
