Roller knives are great tools for cutting cardboard, gasketing and foam. However, every time I run one along a ruler held in place with my left hand I envision a slip and that scalpel-like blade slicing into a finger and severing nerves and ligaments.

but I'm not going to pay $35 for something I can sling together while drinking my morning coffee. A handy scrap of aluminum 'L' was attached to a plastic foot rule with three 6-32 flat head bolts. Now the fingers of my left hand can hide behind this safety fence while my right hand guides the roller knife along the edge of the ruler. Zero cost since all parts were already on hand. I feel so much safer now.
