interesting idea
mastersdlm,
Thanks for the share.
I have been using a piece of 1/4 inch mild steel with a hole tapped in it - 10-32 on one end and 10-24 on the other. Same idea, but lets me hold it in a vise and use a hack saw if I have a lot to cut off.
My nest step is to put a slight bevel on the newly cut edge over at the belt sander. This cylindrical version will be very handy for that - hold the knob in one hand and rotate with a hex key with the other. It would rotate easier if there were no threads, but I like the idea of having the jig clean up the threads as the screw is backed out.
You could probably turn a little step on the knob, the push it into a small bearing. Then it would turn easily, but then still be able to chase the threads when you remove it from the knob
