Sewing Tiedown Straps
The Speedy Stitcher is a glorious piece of useful history. It makes sewing tiedown strap easy. Skill is needed to keep the stitch in a straight line and evenly spaced but I have a trick.

Thanks Rick I haven't thought of the speedy stitcher in years. and just a while back was thinking of wanting to make a few repairs to an old extra heavy canvas tarp and add a couple of site down loops to it Trying to do this on a sewing machine well my sewing machine anyways would be next to impossible even if it were heavy duty enough to make the stitching. I might be able to just use a heavy sack sewing needle but they are a pain to grip and force through the many layers of canvas and the strap. So I might have to look into purchasing a speedy stitcher

Different versions of these sewing awls are available. Snap Off Tools (Harbor Freight) sells one for $6.49.

If you fold the end of the strap with a short fold then a fold the length of the hold down strength will be increased and it will not fray as the stitches are going through a fold. Be stronger as well. If there is space you can also take a double wrap around the bar.
