These are foot hold traps for animals. To make it "fire" (meaning close the jaws) the animal steps on a plate/pan.
Should require <4lbs of pressure to fire. Also the homemade device needs to be able to
Withstand the jaws clamping on it. (Hard)
Disregard the measurements. Just showing the pan. Vertical pressure needs to be measured and withstand the jaws.

Ok, you got me,(and feel like one of your critters lured in) I'm just going blurt out the pic that came to mind when you posted this.........
You have a fish scale right? Take a like 1/4" rod longer than the fish scale(and the jaws) and make a 90deg bend in the end. Weight the rod with the scale and subtract it from your trigger weight and then mark that on your scale. Put the straight end of the rod on the pan and hook the scale to the bend and pull the scale towards the pan/trap.
