Thanks, Trevor for yet another mini lathe achievement - and good luck w the controller,
and I'm curious at what torque you'll get in the low end.

BTW: -Seems like your 4" 4-jaw just got a big brother (or have I missed an episode)?
No wonder you changed the spindle bearings - that weight (and length) add-on, and now the side force from the v-belt...

So - what's next: another 10" bed extension? A Norton box to avoid having to dismount the pulley to change gears?

    Just keep'em coming!
    Cheers

G'Day Mate, yes curious about the torque myself, always a work in progress. If it is indeed an issue I have a couple of ideas.
I've been working with some square stock a little bit so have a 125mm 4 jaw independent mounted.
Fighting with headstock alignment at the moment, it is a bit of a pain.
    Cheers Mate.

-Tell me about it - had to scrape in my headstock Vee and shim it in to get most of the misalignment away,
and in the mean time realizing the mounting bolts screwed everything up again.
Fitting studs into the headstock made it less bad, tightening more consistent.
Then, finally tweak the bed (by the mounting bolts atop the RHS beam) to get the last bit of the turning taper. Jeez.

I'd have thought the RHS mount would be structurally rigid and totally resistant to warp: Not so.
A washer under one of the tailstock's feet throws the alignment off. Ho hum.

"The Chinese Mini Lathe: The gift that keeps giving!", as you said...
    Cheers!
