Well, it's sort of a takeoff. This is part of the airport at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg...

Look closely and you'll see that there is a thin rod attached to the bottom of the plane. The rod rides in a slot in the center of the runway and, as the plane nears the end of the runway, it rises and the plane rises/takes off with it. Notice that the curtain in the 'sky' through which it flies has a slit down the middle to accommodate the rod.

3-odd million buck exhibit! Puts a lot of extreme model train set-ups as mere also-ran.

Miniatur Wunderland is the epitome for dynamic displays but, for static displays it's hard to beat the work of Anders Malmberg...

But when it comes to miniature craftsmen, surely the king is William R. Robertson...

WARNING WARNING WARNING followed by intense wailing siren.
Marv's links are a trap (known here as worm-holes) of incalculable depth. . .and ideal for a rainy midwest Sunday afternoon. Mr. Robertson BTW is one of our celebrated locals, as is The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures here in neighboring Kansas City.
