Chains or no chains, I bet he doesn't stay in the slag pile for very long at a time and probably has a trough of water somewhere to drive through after leaving

Any type of coating on the chains would be worn off in a short time. The reason why I mentioned a trough of water would be to insure that if any red hot slag had lodged in the links and holes of the chain mail would be cooled otherwise it would seem to me that the chains could almost be a determent as not having them because rubber been what it is will burn or melt Tires for large equipment can run from 12 to 30,000.00 and on the super large mining equipment as much as $76,000.00 apiece.
In mining the chains are more for puncture and cut resistance from jagged rock that anything else I would think using them in a slag pile would be to hopefully help slow the burning and melting of rubber but could add to the problem as much as preventing it if not cooled after wards Just my opinion
