My tip is that the filament will be the first thing conk out. We shall see...
At the moment it works just fine.

I am getting my shop all setup and moved into a new building. Nothing happening yet. But I am planning for sure to make your shrinker stretcher! I will post pics. Probably over the winter.

So is that a multiturn potentiometer? Looking at the path of the cable/string, it looks like you'd get at least 1 - 1/5 turn easily, or is it a trick of the camera angle?

for the benefit of someone who does not own a TIG yet, it the pedal just for current control? or an "on/off" (gas) as well?

    thanks,
    Des

    Hi Des

with the pedal you have both functions: When pressing it slightly down the microswitch releases the arc start, gas, etc. By pushing it further down you increase the amperage up to the value that you have preset on your welder.

And no, the potentiometers can only be turned abt. 270°. I just wrapped the string several times around the shaft to have as much friction as possible. The friction is even increased by the spring loaded lever on the other end. The string actually moves 50mm when the pedal is pushed down which gives abt. 3/4 rotation on the 20mm shaft.

    Cheers
