Thanks for sharing this... I like this idea very much. I might implement it with some alterations:
1) counterweight it via cable & pulleys so that you can have an infinitely variable height within its range.
2) instead of four drawer slides & lazy Susan bearing, a tube within a tube (PVC would be low friction, quick & cheap)
3)Use a swivel on the end of the cable to prevent twisting of the cable.

WAY COOL!
I have all sorts of stuff above my bench, including a full set of hammers up to a 2 pound cross-peen. I have my calipers, my squares, my clamps, etc. all RIGHT THERE!

I'll stick a pic in here soon to show you.

BTW: you could add a weight on a cable against the wall and use a couple of pulleys to counter weight the whole thing, then there's no need for a little latch wobber on the ceiling.

An elegant solution to a problem. Because of the many pursuits I follow in my shop, it would need to be 6 feet on a side. Minimum. . . I use empty wire spools to carry several types of tools. Chislels on one, screwdrivers on another. . . Heavy tools have hangers on the walls. The spools are individual, depending on whether I'm doing electrical, metal working, wood working, model making, etc. Each is on a stand of a short piece of 1X6 with a piece of dowel in the center and a PVC coupling for a "riser". Not as convenient as what is shown here, they just sit on the bench. But suitable for what I do.

Overhead tools? Sure why not? Depending on space and tool use it could be great. Barn door tracking is another option
