    Drawer lock chisel

Here is half a water pump plier turned into a drawer lock chisel.

In a tool catalogue, it says it is “indispensable for cutting small mortises in tight places.” Well, agreed. But a price of over £70 makes it a luxury item, unless you are a professional cabinetmaker. And if you are, I don’t see why you can’t cut the lock mortise before assembling the drawer. Admittedly, for that price, you get two chisels, and each has two edges, with two orientations. Also, mine is not “precision ground O-1 tool steel.”
The handle has been made from a bit of salvaged beech chair leg.

    Like it,
Some of those "fancy catalog tools" just don't have the character of home made, some times they don't have the function either. In the mid 90's 3/16 mortice chisels became scarce in catalogs for some strange reason, result, a tie rod from a 72 datsun became a serviceable chisel. It's in my chisel roll still, though it could use a nicer handle. Thanks for sharing.

Baited by "tie rod from a 72 datsun became a serviceable chisel. . .could use nicer handle" I'm resisting every temptation imaginable.

No, Ray, the only function the holes performed was in its previous existence as adjustable grips.

We here, tend to venture outside our normal interests; often, randomly, and pick up useful hints along the way.
Like the best teaching atmospheres, there aren't silly questions. And, truly can't recall any inquiry being ignored.
