A flash flood hit a train 220 miles northwest of Flag.

When I was a kid we were driving to Phoenix from home in Tx My grandpa was driving as he always did I don't know what the highway was this was long before the interstate, anyway the road made huge deep long dips every so often My grandma called them the dipsy doodles grandpa never drove very fast probably around 50 maybe 55. but we started noticing the sky to the north was very dark and this was mid day. Grandpa floored the old car OLD, it was probably only 6 or 7 years old. Anyway he planted his foot on the floor and didn't let up for maybe a hour. When we finally stopped at what ever town we had made it to we got a motel to spend the night and let the car cool down on the news that night we heard that someone had been caught in a flood and swept away That was when we knew why he was so intend on driving so fast

Your grandpa had been around those parts for a while!! Good thing...

On another note, when are these photos from? Looks like there had been a little cleanup done. Looks like there is whats left of one of those new vehicles of some kind is this pile or rubble, under the railroad wheels.

The flash flood happened July 15, the photos were taken a little over 3 weeks after that. There had been a lot of clean up, but little done to the train cars, other that the wheels removed. The locos were all set back on the tracks, but I’m sure they are significantly more valuable than the car carriers (even full) are.

220 miles NW of Flagstaff is more like around Caliente, NV. Is it closer to 20 miles NW of Flagstaff?

The train was north bound, so it had been through Caliente already. This was north east of Caliente, along the Iron and Beaver county line, just north of Lund Utah.
