    In should be noted that the new owner could face the mounting plate if he so desired. This would allow addressing any axial run out that might exist on his lathe / faceplate combo.

    Thanks! I did suggest this. he is a very new to hobby machining and is still in that tentative stage of not wanting to mess stuff up. Soon he will get to the point where he realizes, "I have a lathe, I can fix anything" lol. At least he should have a good base here to learn a bit of cutting and he can always address it later. Best!
