Ha, I was thinking that same thing. We don't know if it was a fail, as we have no idea what was supposed to happen. It looks to be like the whole structure was way too precarious for anyone to be working on or around it.

Foreman: Now don't be forgett'n the counter weight lads!
    Operator: Oops...

It would be interesting to know what the plan was. It looks to me like they wanted this to happen as they were taking down the main boom a piece at a time until the supports gave way and caused to to go away from the only machine that could touch it. Maybe explosives couldn't be used. (insert Scottish joke) "Are ye daft man? Explosives cost money! Do it yourself!"

Something falls down from under the turntable at about 17 seconds in, I agree it seems like they forgot/neglected to remove the weight countering the boom & the bolt holding it to the base failed & it flipped backwards. I think the problem here is you don't want that much steel hitting the wharf like that & winding up in the water

Seems it was not planed but as a fail it was not a very bad one. More info here:

Yes, the Greenies will label it success. And the Salmon, Arctic char, Ocean Trout, Grayling, Perch, Pike, Gulls, Albatross, and Herons will go for it .......
