Why do I think that?
Because he has all his fingers!

looks like he sets the belts up in the palm of his hand, then presents his palm to the pulley, keeping his fingers lower than the palm - similar to how you feed apples to a horse. - it looks dangerous (and yes I'd use a chicken stick or switch everything off), but I suspect some thought has gone into doing this "safely"

I've seen similar videos of guys changing belts on VW Beetles. but they usually use a screwdriver instead of their fingers. Yikes

I had a sloppy drive belt on my bandsaw. I gave it a heel swipe with my hand, hand outside but my fingers must have been dangling a might. It grabbed me by my index and middle fingers. It was a touch bloody. I'm fortunate. My nails will be fully grown back in a 2-3 weeks now. It only stung for a moment. Old can act stupidly, too.

We had an older gentleman working in the blacksmith shop where I worked as a kid. The only way to change the speed of the drill press or stop it was while it was running. just take a stick and nudge the flat belt off the pulley then move it to the one you wanted then nudge it back on with the stick or the palm of your hand. Simple I did it sometimes a dozen or more times a day. Anyway MR Chanie needed to drill something, as he reached for the belt with his hand I yelled for him to take his glove off since that was how I was taught. He says to me boy I've worked in this shop longer than you have lived on this earth. It was a 30 mile drive to the DR. 2 hours later he came back and said next time I'll let you start that ***)(*)&)*&)*&)&*&)&)*&)*&)* machine My boss just laughed

I'm missing my two middle fingers on my right hand at the second joint from an accident with a table saw (almost lost my index and pinky too but I talked the plastic surgeon out of amputating...and I was right, it took me six years but they are working fine now, pulling a trigger and zipping a fly!) ....having said that...I don't see what the guy on the video was doing as nearly as dangerous as having a one second lapse on a table saw.

IMO table saws and angle grinders are more dangerous than a chain saw missing its chain break
