yep - saving precious rubber by cleaning the platen with alcohol (labelled bottle on desk) to preserve it and keep it clean - instead of replacing it due to sticky residue and staining.

Platen cleaning; I remember it well. Small plate printers and typewriters in Dad's office. Good busy-work for a 8 year old.
