    He had a pull line and attempted cut a notch for a hinge. the problem was not enough tension on the pull line, and the notch was not deep enough. When trying to fell a tree against its natural lean more than 1 pull line should be used and the notch has to be deeper than normal. In order to make a house killer tree fall where you want it the pull lines have to force it to lean away from the house before making the final cut.
