    Miniature indexing faceplate

I occasionally need to mount a small part on a faceplate so I made a tiny one to fit into a 1" collet.

The T-slots were made with a 1/4" mill reground to look like a T-slot cutter. The T-nuts are 6-32. The back view,

shows the spigot used to mount it in the collet. The spigot is removable

and has a precision centering pin so that other fixtures can be fitted to it. (A sacrificial mounting plate is shown on the right.)

Finally, with the spigot removed, the faceplate fits into my vertical collet holder to form an indexing table. The bushing shown fits into the table's central hole to reduce its diameter if working on parts smaller than 1/2" OD.

You want miniature? We got miniature...

When I built the PMR model of a treadle-powered wood lathe...

I wanted to make some accessories for it.

The skew turning tool shown in front of the lathe has a 1/8" diameter walnut handle and a 1/16" drill rod blade with a properly-ground skew tip. It's about an inch long. The centers are made from 3/32" taper pins with a 60 degree point turned on the end.

The toughest job, however, was making the wood turning spur center which looks like this...

    https://www.amazon.com/DELTA-46-933-...e+drive+center

With a diameter of about 0.075" even magnifiers weren't enough. I decided that I had to make it "in the blind" using only the dials to orient the piece. To test the procedure I developed, I made a test sample in brass...

The procedure worked well and the final model, done in steel on a taper pin, is installed in the lathe headstock and does a good job of grabbing the stock.
