The video asks for suggestions on how to make a manual chainsaw. My response is, WHY would you WANT a manual chainsaw? A LOT of wood has been processed over the years with a SHARP manual saw.

The chain saw represents one of the most simple ways to make a powered saw. The endless loop, sharpened chain makes it very easy to move the sharp edges in a straight line against a something you wish to cut. It is easy to power a sprocket with a gas or electric motor.

It make no sense to convert the linear motion of a human power source to rotary. This requires the use of a lever (crank) to convert linear motion of the arm to rotary motion of the sprocket. Then back to linear of the chain. This is what happens on a bicycle, but the associated physics of the bike vs the chainsaw are much different.

If you are going to go back to manual, there are much better, much simpler ways to cut wood.

I'm far too lazy to use a manual chainsaw. I'm just ambitious enough to operate a power chainsaw, and I have to be really motivated.
