Thanks Edge20! I've added your Height Gauge to our Machining and Measuring and Marking categories, as well as to your builder page: Edge20's Homemade Tools. Your receipt:

I like it! Two tools in one!
That's why I did it . That square does not bear up against a standard but is good for initial work. Also most height guages have a fairly short bar, on this find some scrap steel with a hole in it

Hi,
What's the sort of chain we can see at the top ?
Hi Christophe
That chain is the Xdrive of my homebuilt CNC router, seems to work well

Just a coincidence it lined up with the square

Very clever of you Graham. Flip the bar in line towards the handle and it could be used as a thickness gauge too.
I like that idea. Amazing what can be done with two bits of metal. The MacGyver gene is alive and well

Indeed. :) Looking forward to more of your projects Graham.
Most of my ideas are because I haven't got it, can't afford it or occasionally an attack of intelligent

Hey, Altair, where abouts in the world are you?
Hello Graham,
Neat and easy! Slice a 45 on one end of the cross bar and you can have a scribe to scratch the set height on to what ever. Make the cross bar out of O1 steel and you could flame harden the scribe tip.
Hi moroeder
It would be easy to end up with a new toolkit based on two bits of steel lol. I do like your idea
