Very interesting. But this is LEAD plating, not chrome. Lead does polish quite well but is a soft coating. Hopefully we all know the potential dangers of lead.
Minimal health hazards there, classic hot plate...I bet that thing has amazing stories around it.
This is an insoluble, plumbic anode, well suited for chrome coating.
Is your source of chromium not stainless steel?
Are you sure you haven’t put down a nickel strike?
