My father was an amateur carpenter. Left some pretty nice pieces. I can butcher wood, if forced. I will attempt to fix it if it's broken, but I've never made anything from scratch with wood but sawdust.
I'm probably better at disassembly than the more important part, but I love simple electrical work, and would most often rather diddle with an old car or bike, than eat. (OK, if you've seen me, you're gonna question that statement.) I have a simple set of criteria when prioritizing things in my life: If I don't think I can make it better, then it probably doesn't interest me much. That's right gentlemen, do not ask me for advise on women. Don't think I ever left one better than I found her. By the same token, I love my grandchildren, 'cause I can see what any minute spent with them accomplishes. Hope I get to feel that way for a long time.
Books are the exception. Can't fix 'em, but I can't get enough of 'em. Yes, mostly how-to, but also fiction and history.
If I could spend my time at work of my choice, and was forced to do the same thing every day, I think I'd repair musical instruments. May not be art, but it would be close enough.
If that's not sufficient, I may need a ghost writer. I don't expect to do much teaching here, but I hope I'll learn from you all.
