Special tool for removing the endcaps from Phylrich bathroom faucets

The Phylich Regent style faucets are disassembled by first unscrewing the endcap on the faucet handle and then removing the hidden screw. This must be done without damaging the fine gold finishes or leaving any other marks which rules out using any type of pliers (even with protective wrap of copper or brass sheet stock). I created a special wrench with a smooth bore and easily adjustable for gently grasping the circumference of the endcaps. After attaching to the endcap, the tool is rotated counterclockwise and the endcap can be easily removed.

The body of the wrench was machined from O365 1.25” OD brass rod. It is 5/16” high and has a 0.625” bored hole (the Phylrich endcaps are ~0.620” OD). The two slots are 1/16” and 1/32” wide, and the stainless steel cap screw is 6-32 X 1”. The wrench was created on my modified Unimat SL 1000 lathe and milling machine.
