Speedy drill-mill depth stop
I replaced my full threaded depth stop bar with an unthreaded one. An alu ring with set screw completes it.

Hi Carnel,
I have tried a few methods but this is the best style of quill stop I have used, I have bonded a base disc to the rough cast surface to get a more accurate distance from a spacer. I never thought to post it but I am glad you did. Great minds and all that.

Thanks, Olderdan. your addition of a base disk is great. I will implement that idea.

put a key way in your collar and add the key to it so the screw presses on the key,, witch presses on the shaft to hold it all in the correct posisition you want..that way you dont get any boogers on the shaft, witch will eventuly kill the shaft as well as make it hard for fine work as the boogers will throw it off. I would use a 3/8 wide key or however wide the flat is. you can make the key a tad short and add a small set screw at each end of the collar to hold the key in place at all times so it dont slide out when not tightened to shaft. using drills is a good quick way to get the size you want. keep up the great work!!!
A key would be the Pukka way but as I am lazy I have simply set a brass pellet to the flattened end of the set screw, my collar is steel so a reduced thread depth is no big deal.
yup a brass puck will do, like the lathes that have a brass rod on end of screw for jib adjustment. you could even make it a cam lock with a brass puck or key.but a knob works wonders.keep up the great work it keeps us all thinking.and always remember even if you dont need something dosent mean that concept cant be adapted or modified to work on something else thats got you pulling hair.sometimes it can get you thinking in a totaly different direction and... Boom!!! you got it!!! thats what I love about this site!!! More brains= less strains.
@ olderdan & marksbug: a lot of alternatives! Collective brains are creative. I will get a choice.
