Yes! And invasive! I had no idea, but just read this recently. The ice age killed them off in most of North America, and they were reintroduced by European settlers about 300 years ago. So cool.

So, someone invented a machine to "harvest" worms from the forest floor? Or is that designed for something else and just happens to also work for collecting worms?

I don't think it harvests them. I think this is just a separator. I think this separates the worms from the dirt. I worked on something years ago that was roughly similar. It was supposed to separate bullets from casings. We just dropped them through an air jet. Heavy bullets dropped through into one bucket. Lighter casings were blown by the air blast into a different bucket. I feel like that would work here.
