    Split Nut

This is a split nut that I made for fast adjusting of a screw clamp, made from a coupling nut.

Closed - threads are engaged on the all thread

The pictures are about as good as I can do with my phone's camera.

YW. Hit the thanks button if like a post though because that count is the only criteria for any recognition here.

Your split nuts remind me of some finger nuts our inspection dept used to use but not for serious clamping, your version has far more thread engagement. I remember they were referred to in the UK as Manchester nuts, any search for those now just returns idiots in Manchester.

I think I've met some of them.

I guess I should have mentioned that the end which bears against something else goes into a washer with a short recess bored to prevent the nut from flipping outward and disengaging from the threads. As soon as pressure is off the nut then it can be opened and moved.
