    Theoretically yes, no question: After a plastic deformation there stay all the elastic stresses below the yield point. But in the case shown the provenance of the hidden stresses is a mystery for me. What for is the short welding seam anyway?

    Looks like it was plasma cut first with the short end bits left for later, it makes them easier to transport. They do the same with casselated beams.
