Starting a nuclear reactor. The blue glow emitted by the reactor is the Cherenkov radiation. Named after named Soviet scientist and Nobel Prize winner Pavel Cherenkov, the electromagnetic radiation is emitted when a charged particle (such as an electron) moves through a dielectric medium faster than the phase velocity of light in that medium.
