When in saipan in the late 60s, we explored around. One day we found a pile of stacked helmets. I thought cool, I can get some souvenirs. When I started to go through them, they all had holes in them. This kinda freaked me as these were helmets of dead soldiers. I left them there.
Same on Pelilieu island only the stainless bead that was affixed on the rim remains,following the battle chronicles you very quickly find specified area by looking for the rims.Great respect and admiration for both parties for their bravery.
