Clever. One of my favorite tools is a hook & pick set with changeable insets. One end of the Aluminium handle has a small Neodymium magnet on it and it is invaluable for picking out small parts.

There is a company, Dangerous Things, that makes a non-FDA approved probably will give your cancer cancer magnet that's designed to be implanted under your skin. They actually have two. One is axially magnetized to help you feel magnetic fields and the other is diametrically magnetized to maximize lifting power.

No practical purpose, really. The nifty factor of adding another sense, being able to feel magnetic fields, appeals to me. I.e. It would be cool to be able to feel when an AC line is electrified. Also, looping back to the parent post, picking up small screws.

If we were hacking on other senses too I'd love the native ability to find north. As far as I know we don't have the technology for that yet.

You could Crazy Glue a small magnet to your finger. That would be harmless and almost do what you want. Being aware of the sun’s position and time of day can give you an idea of north.

I can usually tell where north is within a reasonable amount of error.
Unless I am in a Mall, then I get lost nearly every time. I blame it on the electrical field from florescent lights.

As A kid I used to wonder if eating crushed up magnets would turn me into a homing pidgin! I saw a video about those magnet implants about a year ago. I think the novelty would wear off being able to pick things up and it would be a real nuisance around any machine producing ferrous dust and/or small slivers.
