*clutch fan. Stopping a clutch fan with your foot.

...then nearly losing a finger because the guy operating the throttle is an a-hole.

Not with MY foot!!!! I used to work at a "junk yard" auto salvage. Some guy wanted to see the engine he bought run before he to it home. We had already removed it from the donor car and loaded into the bed of his pick-up truck, setting it on a couple of junk tires.

The owner told him it he wanted to see it run, he should have said so before we removed it from the donor car. Then told him if he wanted to run it before he left that would be up to him. Added, if it does not start, you can have your money back. We got him a battery to use.

So the guy squirted some gas into the carburetor, hooked some wires to the ignition, jumped the starter, it fired right up, no smoke. Then of course died right away when the squirt of gas was gone. Not being convinced, he squirted a BIG shot of gas into the carb, WAY TOO MUCH. Of course all that gas flooded it and did not start right away.

I bet you can guess what happened next. He opened the throttle, like you do when things are flooded, hit the started and that engine instantly started at near full throttle. In the couple seconds before it burned up that big load of fuel the engine was spinning around in the guys truck bed. Breaking things and tearing up his nice truck bed.

The boss chucked and said, "I told you it was a good motor and walked away".
