    The wire is under the flux
    The purpose is bigger welds
    More amps to hot to hold by hand faster with machine

    That's correct, the tensile grade of the welds are determined by which grade of flux granules are used. the granules which are not consumed during the welding process are vacuumed up run through a screen and returned to the hopper to be used again.
